Loving our neighbor
It's what we do!
Our mission as a United Methodist congregation is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
As followers of Jesus, we grow in our discipleship through the Power of 3:
All are welcome and affirmed here at Genesis UMC!
What do United Methodists Believe?
That’s not an easy question to answer since United Methodists don’t agree on all aspects of Christian doctrine. Since our founding in the 18th century, the distinguishing marks of Methodists have been shown by a commitment to the basics of Christian faith and by a Christian life-style.
Our shared common heritage with many other Christians includes:
Conviction that God has mercy and love for all people
Belief in a triune God, often expressed as Father, Son, and Holy
Spirit, or Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer
Faith in the mystery of salvation through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ
Celebration of the sacraments or sacred ceremonies of Holy Communion and Baptism
Our four main guidelines for our belief are as follows:
Scripture – our primary resource and standard for Christian doctrine
Tradition – the history and ritual of the church as developed through the ages
Experience – the individual’s personal understanding of the faith in light of his or her own life
Reason – compelling and discerning thought and logic brought to bear upon the Christian faith.
We Accept All
Genesis United Methodist Church is committed to, and known for, being a church with open hearts, open minds, and open doors. We believe the church exists to help people learn to love God and to learn to love and accept others regardless of their race, age, sex, or language, nationality or where they are on their faith journey. We believe that God’s love takes root in our hearts and grows in our lives through our involvement in in the following ways.
We believe that worship is the engine that drives the Christian life, as well as the church. Worship grows out of the deepest longings in our hearts; to be connected to that which is beyond ourselves, to the God who has created, redeemed, and sustained all life. During worship, we offer our praise and thanksgiving to God as a community of faith.
We believe that disciples are those who willingly choose to “discipline” their lives based the model of Jesus. This includes:
Regular participation in worship and in the sacraments of the Lord’s Supper and baptism
Deep concern and missional involvement with those who are sick, imprisoned, hungry, poor, oppressed, or socially isolated.
Study of the bible
Consistent seeking a deeper relationship with God through personal, corporate and contemplative prayer.
We believe the story of faith is built on the foundation of a God who loves and a God who gives. Therefore, we see generosity as the primary mark of Jesus. This includes the sharing of our resources for the sake of serving the world. Disciples of Jesus are those who intentionally pursue opportunities to sacrifice for the sake of blessing others. We believe God has called us to be a blessing to our city, our region and our entire world.
